Opening ceremony of the 15^th European Gliding Championships in Prienai started with the parade of all the participants grouped by countries. Each team was introduced. Then followed speeches of vice-minister of transport and communications, the president of Lithuanian Aero Club and a nice performance of traditional Lithuanian music and dances. Briefing just ended and it looks like we’ll have a flying day. Cold front with his fellow secondary fronts passed and we’ll have a gap of clear sky. The given tasks are quite short, because all competitors must land until 16:00 due to the opening ceremony in the evening.

Club class and world class got an assigned area task with 3 areas (Sunskai, Luksiai, Igliauka), 107,2 km/221,7 km. Standard class and double seaters class – an assigned area task with 3 points (Pilviskiai, Gelgaudiskis, Igliauka), 124,3 km/256,5 km. We got more space to the north – the southern part of Kaunas TMA. The first launch is planned at 12:30. 
After two days of silence it’s nice to hear Wilgas roaring again :).

Registration of the competitors is over. So, we have:

 

Club class – 29 pilots

20 m class – 14 couples of pilots

Standard class – 25 pilots

World class – 10 pilots

 

The official file of turn points is already on the internet.

The file of air space is still being modified, because we expect to get more flying space.

We had a briefing at 11:00. The day has been cancelled – weather is bad and doesn’t want to get better today. That old warm front stopped, the cold front caught up with him and they both made an occluded front which now is moving too slow – that’s the scary story :).

Today at 14:00 everybody will be able to visit the factory of Sports Aviation (meeting place – near the clubhouse). The new glider of 18 meter class LAK-17 B will be also presented.
